We continue to field questions asking what types of gloves to use against the H1N1 Virus.  We remain unaware of any recommendations issued by the CDC recommending a particular disposable glove type (i.e. vinyl, latex, nitrile) or grade (examination, multipurpose) for use in preventing the spread of H1N1.  If you too are wondering which glove to use, I strongly suggest consulting applicable regulatory agencies for guidance specific to your state and industry.  You can find a link to each state’s health department at our training site, www.gloveuniversity.com.

In the event no other recommendation has been issued, we suggest use of non-latex powder-free examination gloves, such as vinyl and nitrile.  These gloves meet FDA quality standards for protection against bloodborne pathogens and contaminants and do not pose latex allergy risks.

If you still have questions, reply to this post and I’ll help you find the H1N1 information you need.

The House of Representatives has passed the widely discussed Food Safety Enhancement Act introduced earlier this summer. The Act, as currently written, would take effect 18 months after approval by the Senate and President. The new legislation would dramatically increase requirements for ensuring the traceability of foods, but is not expected to have any direct impact on disposable glove usage in the foodservice industry.
